Medium Breeds

BOXER

Country of Origin:Germany
Size: The Boxer has a shoulder height of 53-63 cm (21-25 in) and weighs 24-32 kg (53-70 lbs).

Coat: The Boxer has a short, smooth, shiny coat. It may be fawn (light tan, yellow, or light reddish), brindle (light/dark striped), or red. A black mask around the nose and jaws and white markings (“flashings”) on the belly, chest, and feet are possible.

Character: The Boxer is happy, friendly, intelligent, attentive, and loyal. Boxers develop strong, close bonds with family. They have lots of energy and a serious demeanour, though they can be clownish and playful as well. They like to grab and carry around just about anything they can in their mouths. They make excellent guardians and companions.

Temperament: The Boxer gets along especially well with children. They also get along well with other dogs and household pets, but may be aggressive towards unknown dogs. It is best if the Boxer undergoes early socialization due to its strong, boisterous personality.

Care: The Boxer’s coat can be kept in good condition by brushing occasionally to remove dead hair. The Boxer requires frequent human companionship.Boxer have an average lifespan of 10-12 years and will remain fit and athletic into old age. They have litters of 2-10 puppies.

Training: The Boxer must be trained not to jump up at people as it is naturally fond of jumping. The Boxer is ideal for various sporting activities because it can be highly trained and learns very quickly.






BULL TERRIER
Country of Origin:England
Size: The Bull Terrier has a shoulder height of 53-56 cm (21-22 in) and weighs 20-27 kg (45-60 lbs).

Coat: The Bull Terrier has a dense, short-haired coat. It can be all white (with possible markings on the head), or a solid color with highlights. Acceptable colors are solid black or a mix of tan with either white, red, broken black, or fawn.

Character: Bull Terriers are happy, comical, and playful, but they are also very stubborn and strong-willed when the mood strikes them. The Bull Terrier is scrappy, loyal, and eager to defend its owner, but isn’t a bully and will not provoke a fight. Bull Terriers are lively, brave, tough, and likable.

Temperament: The Bull Terrier gets along well with children. Provided proper social training has taken place, it can make friends with cats or other household pets. The Bull Terrier may try to dominate other dogs depending on its individual nature and upbringing.

Care: The Bull Terrier’s coat should be brushed periodically with a rubber brush to remove dead hairs. The ears need to be cleaned on a regular basis. Bull Terriers should be given a soft place to lie down. They have a life span of 10-12 years and litters of 4-7 pups.

Training: The Bull Terrier should be given an obedience course when young. Bull Terriers are very strong when fully grown, which makes them difficult to train as adults. Handlers must be patient and understanding, as the Bull Terrier learns quickly but has a stubborn streak.








CHOW CHOW

Origin-China
HEIGHT: 18-22 inches
Weight: 20-32 kg
Life Expectancy: about 15 years
Grooming-Regular brushings of the long coat is important to maintain the lifted, standing-outlook.
Temperament- The Chow Chow is usually well-mannered. Quite good with children.



DALMATION

Origin- Yugoslavia
HEIGHT: 22-24 inches
Weight: around 25 Kg
Colour- white with black spots, white with tan spots
Life Expectancy: About 10-12 years
Grooming- The Dalmatian sheds profusely twice a year. It is a hardy, easy to keep breed, though frequent brushing is needed to cope with constant shedding.
Temperament- They do not like to just sit around all day with nothing to do. They are playful, happy-go-lucky, extremely sensitive and loyal. The Dalmatian needs human companionship, without which it is likely to become depressed. For this reason they do not make good yard dogs. They have excellent memories and can remember for years any bad treatment it has had.




DOBERMEN

Origin-Germany
HEIGHT: 26-28 inches
Weight: 30-40kg
Life Expectancy: 12-13 years
Grooming-Dobes need little grooming and are average shedders.
Temperament-Doberman Pinscher is intense and energetic with tremendous strength and stamina. Versatile, highly intelligent and very easy to train.In Breif its a ONE MANY DOG



GERMAN SHEPHERD

Origin-Germany
HEIGHT:24-26 inches
Weight:35-40kg
Life Expectancy: About 13 years
Grooming-The smooth, medium-haired double coat is easy to groom. Comb and brush with a firm bristle brush
Temperament-Often used as working dogs, German Shepherds are direct and fearless, and alert. Bold, cheerful, obedient and eager to learn. Known for their tremendous loyalty and courage. Calmly confident, but not hostile. Serious and highly intelligent. They have a high learning ability.




GOLDEN RETRIEVER

ORIGIN- England & Scotland
Height: 22-24 inches
Weight: 27-36kg
Life Expectancy: About 10-12 years
Grooming-The smooth, medium-haired double coat is easy to groom. Comb and brush with a firm bristle brush
Temperament-These are lovable, well-mannered, intelligent dogs with a great charm. They are easily trained, and always patient and gentle with children. Loyal, confident, sweet and eager to please. It is active, loving and an outstanding family dog.




Irish Setter: The Irish Setter is an active aristocratic handsome deep red colour dog. It is believed that it has been developed with English Setter, Spaniel and Pointer combination. The male stands27cms and weighs 32 kgs and female stands 25 cms and weighs about 27kgs. They have a fine glossy coat.


LABRADOR RETREIVER

Origin: Canada
Height: 21.5 - 24.5 inches
Weight: 55 - 75 lbs.
Colors: Black, yellow, chocolate
Coat Type: Close, short, dense without waves or feathering
Temperament: Responsive, friendly, non-aggressive, intelligent.
Training- very easy





POINTER

Origin: Germany
Life Expectancy: 12-15 years
Height: 23-25 inches / Bitches 21-23 inches
Weight: 55-70 Ibs
Colors: Liver, liver and white, white patched, tan, brown, or roan.
Temperament: German Shorthaired Pointers are an extremely energetic breed. Smart, cheerful, friendly and easy to please, this breed loves children and family.
Training: Very easy to train, but needs a firm and caring trainer. Requires early obediance training.


SHAR PEI

Country of Origin: The Chinese Shar-Pei (also known as the ‘Chinese Fighting Dog’, and nicknamed the ‘Golden Lion’)
Size: Chinese Shar-Peis have a shoulder height of 48-58 cm (19-23 in) and weigh 18-25 kg (40-55 lbs)
Character: The Chinese Shar-Pei is brave, wise, and dominant, but not always obedient.
Temperament: The Chinese Shar-Pei bonds quickly with its family, and is extremely devoted. Chinese Shar-Peis are not unfriendly toward strangers. They are fine with children and get along with other household pets.
Care: The characteristic folds of skin that cover the Chinese Shar-Pei’s body must be checked and cleaned regularly to prevent irritation. The entire coat should be groomed with a soft brush weekly
Training: The Chinese Shar-Pei must be trained firmly and consistently. Chinese Shar-Peis can grow bored of repetition, so training should be made diverse and interesting.
